SUMMARY:Mission Songs Project by Jessie Lloyd
DESCRIPTION:Songs that speak of the daily lives of the First Peoples who were relocated to the missions \nJessie Lloyd first became curious about the songs from the Aboriginal reserves\, or the mission days\, when she heard her Aunties singing an old tune about the boat that used to transport the stolen generation children and those removed under the Aborigines Protection Act. Searching for the secular songs that were sung after church\, she explores the day-to-day life on the missions\, settlements and reserves through music. \nLloyd will be accompanied by two of Australia’s finest Indigenous vocalists to take you on a musical journey across Australia as they share songs from this ‘missions era’. The acoustic trio will engage through intimate and personal storytelling\, moving harmonies and historical insights. \nUsing humour and truth\, they will share the voices of elders as they would around a warm campfire or kitchen table to present an authentic narrative of Aboriginal Australia. \n‘Profoundly moving … the entire collection is sublime’ The Australian \n‘Islander rhythms\, campfire country and defiant humour celebrate simple joys. Melancholy ballads chart a journey of blood\, sweat and tears … you’ll almost hear the kettle boil as a closing home recording of the elders invites us to sit down with these unsung survivors.’ 4.5 stars\, Fairfax Media \nYou can book your tickets in person at RPAC Box Office\, 2–16 Middle Street\, Cleveland or by phone on 3829 8131 or online at rpac.com.au \n

SUMMARY:Orava Quartet - Mozart\, Beethoven and Schulhoff
DESCRIPTION:The ‘world class’ quartet share an exciting program of orchestral firsts \nOrava Quartet were the first Australian string quartet invited to sign with Universal Music and continuing with this theme they will bring you a classic program of fabulous firsts! \nThe concert will open with Mozart’s first string quartet which he wrote in its original three-movement form in 1770 while just 14 years old. While a fourth movement was added later\, the work nonetheless shows the promise of young Mozart’s instinctive feel for the string quartet form. Beethoven’s first ‘Razumovsky’ quartet follows\, the first of three works written for the Russian ambassador to Vienna\, Count Andreas Razumovsky and heralding not only a lengthier format but also a popular Russian theme to listen for in its final movement. Bringing the concert to a magnificent close will be Erwin Schulhoff’s first string quartet\, a memorable testament to the eclectic styles and moods of the 1920s as well the composer’s Czech heritage. \nAfter their stunning concert at RPAC last year\, get set for another thrilling performance by the Orava Quartet\, as they bring their unique sound and breathtaking intensity to the classics of the string quartet canon. \n‘Impeccable balance and pinpoint intonation’ Limelight Magazine\n‘The real deal’ The Australian\n‘World class’ The Mercury \nYou can book your tickets in person at RPAC Box Office\, 2–16 Middle Street\, Cleveland or by phone on 3829 8131 or online at rpac.com.au \n
